We've all been there. You're having a serious conversation with someone - possibly somebody you've just started dating , or maybe even your boss - and your eye starts twitching uncontrollably.

You don't want to come across like you've got a nervous twitch but the more you try to stop it, the worse it gets.

Common causes of eye twitching

Stress, Dry eyes, Fatigue, Intake of Alcohol or Caffeine, Infection of an eye

If this sounds familiar, then you might want to start catching some more sleep.

The most common cause of eye-twitching is fatigue, so consider getting to bed a bit earlier.

Stress is also a factor, according to WebMD , so you might not completely be able to avoid twitching in front of your boss.

One thing we can definitely have control over is our caffeine, alcohol and tobacco use. Too much of these things can cause eye twitches, too.

Of course, as with all things, the spasms can be a sign of serious eye conditions or are more rarely associated with nerve or brain disorders like Parkinson's.

If you experience prolonged symptoms or are concerned about the cause, always consult your doctor.

But it's more likely your body is trying to tell you to get more sleep, de-stress and lay off the caffeine.

In the meantime, style it out with a wink.
