THE Algerian football team have announced they will donate their $9 million World Cup prizemoney to the people in Gaza. Algerians gained many new fans as they played their way into the Round of 16, but lost valiantly to Germany in extra time.
They were also the only African side to make it through past the group stages.
Forward Islam Slimani said the money should go where it is needed most.
“Our brothers in Gaza need help, we don’t need anyone’s money, but our Palestinian brother need this money,” Slimani was quoted by Jezair Khabar newspaper.

Slimani, who plays for Sporting Lisbon, was promised a cash reward for each goal he scored and a car before the FIFA 2014 World Cup commenced.
It comes as Israeli aircraft bombed dozens of sites in the Gaza strip this week and killed a Palestinian teenager during an arrest raid in the occupied West Bank.
The violence was in response to the discovery of three Israeli teenagers killed in the West Bank after they went missing on June 12.
Algeria’s football side returned home to a heroes welcome on Wednesday.
