Lena Lupari only found out something was wrong when she was rushed to hospital after being unable to lift her head from her bed

28 cans of Red Bull a day are making me blind, says 26-stone mother Lena Lupari

An mum has ballooned to a staggering 26 stone and is now going blind after sinking 28 cans of Red Bull everyday.

Lena Lupari splashes out almost £6,000 every year on the high energy drink - but now wants the NHS to pay for a ‘bootcamp’ so she can shed the pounds.

She said: "I don't want a gastric band or surgery but I think they should offer help for someone with this and to motivate them - something like a boot camp."

The 26-year-old, from Newtonabbey in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, saw her weight balloon and as a result she has developed Idiopathic intracranial hypertension.

The condition can lead to people losing their sight.

Ms Lupari claims she would down up to 28 cans of the drink while caring for her three young children - one of who has special needs.

She told how she frequently ignored headaches and just took painkillers, until one day she ended up in hospital for six days.

Ms Lupari was unable to raise her head off the bed and her vision went.

After receiving treatment in hospital, Ms Lupari was told she must lose seven stone to keep symptoms of the condition at bay.
Help: Lena has asked the NHS to help her shed the weight through a bootcamp

She has since stopped drinking Red Bull and has lost two stone in weight

She told MailOnline: "Losing the weight doesn't mean it will go away forever but it means I won't need surgery.”

Red Bull was launched in 1987 and has since turned its founder, Dietrich Mateschitz, into a billionaire.

Mirror Online has contacted Red Bull for comment.
